What is the Cause of Tinnitus?

There are so many different factors that can cause tinnitus that its cause in any one individual may be difficult to pin down. It is hard to measure tinnitus because it is only heard by the person suffering from it. Unless you are dealing with objective tinnitus which is when the doctor can also hear the annoying buzzing or ringing sound. There are a number of tests that they can perform but your best bet is to discover what the cause of your tinnitus is then it will be easier to cure or at least help.

How long will tinnitus last?

This is variable depending on the individual, what has caused his tinnitus to be occurring, and how appropriate are the methods chosen for tinnitus treatment. For example, two individuals with symptoms that appear similar may react very differently. One may respond better to acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, while the Chinese cure may not be helpful at all to someone with, for example, pulsatile tinnitus.

The first thing to consider when diagnosed with tinnitus is whether it is subjective tinnitus or objective tinnitus. Subjective tinnitus is a much more common type of tinnitus than the objective form. Objective tinnitus only affects few people compared to subjective tinnitus. If you have a ringing, roaring, buzzing, or swooshing sound in your inner ear and your doctor cannot hear with a professional instrument then you have subjective tinnitus. If your doctor can hear the buzzing or ringing coming through his listening device then it is objective tinnitus.

Subjective tinnitus is the most common form of tinnitus and is usually the one of the two that is less serious. The most common cause of the subjective form of tinnitus is hearing loss due to the aging process. If the inner ear has had extensive exposure to loud speakers or equipment the hearing loss could set in at a younger age. The age that tinnitus usually sets in is around fifty or sixty. The age that tinnitus sets in is dependent upon the amount of trauma the inner ear has endured over the duration of your life. If the trauma to the inner ear has been extensive and in excess, then the tinnitus that accompanies hearing loss may set in at a younger age. If tinnitus does set in at a younger age there is a possibility that it could be something more serious disease.

Loud noises are a cause for a large percentage of people suffering from tinnitus. This is why it is recommended to wear earplugs while working around loud obtrusive noises, attending loud concerts, or surrounding you with other traumatic noises

Tinnitus researcher Mr. Geoff Barker has written a book, "Stop the Ringing: 11 Proven Techniques to Stop Tinnitus" which has been helpful to a large number of tinnitus sufferers. The method he teaches is how to reduce or cure tinnitus at home, in just a few minutes a day, simply and inexpensively. Is there a cure for tinnitus?

Is There A New Cure for Tinnitus?

Tinnitus affects thousands of people, it can be quite debilitating and those suffering from the condition are usually sensitive to loud noises and sometimes loss of balance. Sleep patterns are often interrupted which in turn can affect the sufferers daily life dramatically. There are many medical universities around the world studying and researching in the hope of finding a new tinnitus cure.

So what is the new tinnitus cure? Actually there are many studies underway; one in particular is the use of stem cells, currently being tested for a host of neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.

This research, hopefully, will also help in the treatment of deafness and other types of hearing loss aswell as become a new cure for tinnitus.

Stem cells are generally taken from embryos and converted into different types of cells, but in this case; for the human ear, it is thought that stem cells taken from sensory nerves could be re-grown in the area of the ear that shows signs of damage.

An early indication for this procedure to become a new tinnitus cure looks promising.

With various bodies seeking a new tinnitus cure, there is often conflict between organisations, each believing that ‘they’ are developing ‘the’ new cure for tinnitus. Various methods are being tested apart from stem cell re-growth, one being the use of algorithms.

A simplistic description is that this technique involves a series of tests; for example there may be 6 processes for a particular test, therefore carrying them out in order – 1 to 6 – seems the most logical thing to do.

However, if this does not prove to be successful tinnitus cure, it seems prudent to go back to process 1 but follow it by process 3 for instance, thereby switching the processes around until a satisfactory combination is found.

Algorithms can be individually customised for each patient; and used as a treatment for tinnitus would involve delivery of sound patterns via a digital processor in the hope of retraining the neurological senses linked to the ear which might cure tinnitus.

New Tinnitus Cure Conclusions

We are now seeing a similarity between the stem cell process and the algorithm process; both involving the neurological senses or nerves – with tinnitus living somewhere along the neural network.

This tinnitus cure, as with most cures it seems, will in any event be based upon science and mathematics.

As with most treatments that involve tinnitus, growing new stem cells is still very much in the infancy stage and is not really to be taken seriously at this stage hence the growing popularity of our tinnitus remedies.

It will also be prohibitively expensive for a long time to come which puts it out of the reach of the average tinnitus sufferer.

Aggressive Treatment for Tinnitus

One would think that an aggressive treatment for tinnitus would be more readily available considering the fact that nearly 20% of the population suffers from this maniacally annoying ringing or buzzing in one or both ears. Unfortunately, a successful tinnitus treatment has not yet been proven by medical science. Fortunately, that does not mean there are no remedies that people have successfully used. There are several ways that someone who suffers from tinnitus may gain relief from their misery.

Although no conventional drugs or medicines to cure tinnitus have yet been formulated, there are herbal or homeopathic tinnitus treatments that have much success in terms of anecdotal evidence.

At least one dietary supplement, Lipoflavonoid, reportedly can relieve or prevent tinnitus symptoms by virtue of the way it improves the circulation of blood in the inner ear. Lopoflavonoid was formulated as long ago as 1961, and it is often recommended as a nutritional supplement for Meniere’s disease patients, who suffer from loss of hearing, ringing in their ears and dizziness.

Some tinnitus sufferers find that increasing their intake of vitamins A, C, D, E, and all of the B vitamins eases their symptoms by generally boosting their immune system. And it almost goes without saying that quitting smoking and reducing one’s intake of alcohol, caffeine and salt are also beneficial.

Another component of an all-out, aggressive treatment regine for tinnitus would have to include a white noise generator of some kind. Either a CD or a white or pink noise generator that simulates the sound of falling rain, a babbling brook, waterfall, the surf, or similar sounds help mask the tinnitus noise and make it easier to fall to sleep.

A good source of remedies to help relieve tinnitus symptoms.
